WATCH and PRAY

‘Watch and Pray’ is part three in a series of artworks on the praying family, part one is ‘Virtuous Woman’ and part two is ‘Intercessor’.
I’m undecided on a number of pieces for the complete series.
Unlike many of my other work ‘Watch and Pray’ is not based on an older sketch.

‘Watch and Pray’ is a piece meant to show a husband and praying together.

One of the small details I forgot to include was the wedding bands on the hands of the figures, but instead of going back to print a new set I left the piece as is.

As usual there was a final detail I added to my work, I added individual strands of hair that are offset from the flow of the rest of the hair, I believe it adds more realistic detail and is my favorite part of this work. I also added small spots of shine to show detail in the earrings and necklace to bring out a gold feel in a black and white pencil sketch.

‘Watch and Pray’ was the first piece that I used that more fluid sketch lines with my pencil, instead of blending the lines I chose to show detail in the various materials of the work by way of varying the sketch lines with the pencil. I actually went back and added this technique to my others works I had been working on at that time.

‘Watch and Pray’ was a fun piece and look forward to seeing public response toward it.
