WEDDING DAY

Once again, ‘Wedding Day’ is another print that originated from a sketch done in 98’, shortly after my wife and I were engaged. I wanted to simply draw a beautiful piece that resembled a Wedding portrait.

I envisioned a work that was fully rendered toward the top of the piece and became more sketch-like as the viewer’s eyes follow down the bottom of the art.

The viewers focus is to remain on the faces on the figures. What I found interesting about this piece was the African garb and headdresses with the Americanized relaxed hair and bamboo earrings on the female figure, symbolizing the “merging” if not evolution of both African and African American roots. The necklaces around the man’s neck are necklaces that I wore in high-school and among my favorite pieces of jewelry.

Shortly before print I changed a major portion of ‘Wedding Day’; I added eyeglasses to the man’s apparel. I noticed that I don’t see many artworks with people wearing glasses especially men. I thought it to be a nice and realistic touch.
